They add a distinctive taste to my salads compared to most cultivated mushrooms. They are not as sour as older beefsteaks. My thoughts and recommendations are, go for younger beefsteak mushrooms. Let this not put you off from foraging for this mushroom. What does beefsteak mushrooms taste like? They are sour. Its texture is meat-like, which makes it ideal for vegan dishes. Cutting the mushroom, you’ll notice its red flesh that resembles beef and when pressed it produces a blood-like liquid. The underside of the cap is covered in tiny pores.
